System Strengthening Project (SSP)

The System Strengthening Project (SSP) was established in 2016. At a community level, the SSP team coordinates with the police to train police officers to respond appropriately to cases of trafficking and exploitation and to protect the community members they serve. The skills and knowledge gained can feed back into the cases and, in turn, the police can pass their knowledge to other law enforcement representatives.

At a national level, we provide feedback and policy recommendations to strengthen memorandums of understanding (MoUs) between the Cambodian government and foreign governments to assist Cambodians who have been trafficked across borders.

The project aims to develop the response from law enforcement in the target provinces so they can effectively respond to cases of human trafficking and sexual abuse.

There are two key outcomes of the SSP;

  • Individual police officers can apply the skills and knowledge they have learnt to effectively respond to cases of human trafficking and sexual abuse.

  • The police officers can pass on their knowledge to their colleagues and other law enforcement officials to increase understanding and sustainability.

SSP staff conduct training sessions for many female police officers in Cambodia.
