Our Journey Into a New Vision

The beginning of a new decade warrants a deep dive into what we as individuals and as a global community wish to achieve and dare to dream for a better future. This was something we as an organisation embarked on ourselves, creating our new five-year strategy for 2020-2024 from the answers we found.

We chose to travel this journey with others, involving not only our own team and board, but others who know us, and know the journey we have been on for almost 15 years. Those who have expanded our horizons beyond Cambodia into a global context and are committed to walking with us into the future.

Any deep dive challenges us to venture outside our comfort zone, as individuals, as an organisation, and as a global movement. It pushes us to go further than we have before, to look more closely at the issues we are addressing and to question and evaluate our past responses. This helps us craft a new response to face an ever changing environment.

Our changes have been bold! We have set ourselves new thematic areas that ground and remind every project of the change we want to see, a new vision to remind us of the world we want to create, and a new mission statement to guide us as we work towards that vision.

Our New Vision

“We see a world where communities live in dignity, harmony, and freedom. “

Our New Mission

“We seek to end all forms of abuse and modern slavery globally by building a movement to empower communities, to strengthen systems, and to restore justice and wellbeing with survivors.”

We had to decide not only what our vision statement was, but also what each of our three key words truly mean. So how have we defined these human rights principles?

Dignity – We see a world where every person is valued and respected for their own sake.

Harmony – We see a world where communities live together peacefully.

Freedom - We see a world where all people thrive in a life of their own making.

These new key words reflect what we envision for the future of all – and that the work we do to address human trafficking/modern slavery, abuse and exploitation – should have an impact beyond just these issues. We want to make our world a better place for all.

We believe that this journey, which has challenged and changed us, is critical for creating a safer and more empowered world. One where individuals, families and communities are able to achieve their rights to protection, justice and restoration.

This is not an exclusive journey, only for some, it is a life journey for us all – issuing the challenge to be more than we are.

Mahatma Gandhi said: "be the change you wish to see in the world.”

In 2020, we will endeavour to be just that.
